What Is the True Culprit of High Blood Pressure?

When we think high blood pressure, we worry about heart conditions. But we never understand why or how we got high blood pressure. Well, this is easily preventable without hurrying up to get a blood pressure drug. Blood pressure drugs were not designed to be on it forever. It was designed to lower the blood pressure and figure out why it was high and then treat that condition. But as usual, we make more money prescribing a forever drug and never treating the root cause, which will soon catch up to our body and lead to other diseases and disorders.

Let’s go over some of the reasons for high blood pressure…

Inflammation

One big reason is inflammation in the body. Blood pressure can occur when we are in pain. I never like to take blood pressure on the initial visit, because it is misleading. If patients have been in chronic pain, they will have an elevated blood pressure. Once we get them out of pain, the blood pressure decreases.

Heavy Metal Toxicity

Mercury is known to cause a rise in blood pressure.

BPA plastics have also been shown to increase blood pressure. Look at all the plastic we consume: plastic water bottles, plastic storage containers that we heat our food in, Styrofoam cups we put our hot coffee in.

Currently, the health effects of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) is being studied on the health of individuals. This is your cell phones, wireless devices, the constant stream of electromagnetic waves from your modem and router. Most people don’t even understand the extremely high waves penetrating through the house from your Power meter (these are now read by the power company electronically).

Blood Sugar Imbalances

Obesity causes hypertension. The fat cells increase leptin and leptin stimulates the brain to increase the sympathetic nervous system tone and therefore, hypertension starts. Also, they found that fat cells lead to a decrease in adiponectin, decreasing insulin sensitivity and here is where inflammation begins. When inflammation begins, it can cause the arteries to stiffen and hypertension is the result.

Fat cells also release inflammation markers, blood clotting markers, and stimulates the kidney to lead to sodium re-absorption.

The chemicals in cigarettes cause hypertension since cigarettes and soon to be Vapes have a high dose of toxic chemicals in these products. These chemicals lead to inflammation which is the cause of hypertension.

Here is the sad story. Hypertension and blood pressure issues are no longer an older age problem. We are finding that over 3% of children have hypertension and 16% of children have pre-hypertension. It all comes from the mother’s diet during pregnancy and the child’s environment and diet after childbirth. Look at all the plastic baby bottles we feed are children with, and the chemical clothing and baby beds we exposed to these kids. They have an unfair chance in life when they start out.

So, what can we do to lower our Blood Pressure?

  • Stay away from chemicals like phthalates, BPA, mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic.
  • Reduce our inflammation by eating more organic fruits and vegetables.
  • Focus on a low glycemic load diet and eat a more Paleo, Mediterranean, or Keto diet.
  • Focus on supporting the gut and making it more healthy

Also, Sunlight is so important. Studies have even proven that exposure of sunlight decreases blood pressure because of the Nitric Oxide that is released from the top of the skin when it is exposed to UV light. This nitric oxide increases the elasticity in the arterial walls to widen and lower the blood pressure.

Studies have also shown that regular chiropractic care, acupuncture, (17 points) and massage (7 points) helps lower blood pressure by several points in systolic and diastolic pressure.

Isometric exercises and yoga have also shown a decrease in blood pressure.

There are many supplements that have proven to not only reduce blood pressure but help reduce cholesterol such as, garlic. There are so many alternatives that work on the body as a whole to heal and repair vs. working on the symptom. Blood pressure is not a pill problem; it is a health problem. It is something that should not be taken lightly. Your body is trying to tell you something is not working properly, and you better fix it before it breaks down. Studies have shown that patents placed on blood pressure medication never guarantees vascular health. UAB even did a recent study showing that people on blood pressure medications still had an incidence of stroke.  Howard says, “…the risk of stroke went up 33 percent with each blood pressure medicine required to treat blood pressure to goal. Compared to people with systolic blood pressure below 120 mmHg without treatment, hypertensive individuals on three or more blood pressure medications had a stroke risk of 2.5 times higher.”  Why? We aren’t treating the root cause. Let’s find out why our blood pressure is high and once we treat that, then our body will thank us exponentially.
